The Western Empire has collapsed and along with it the colonialism as far as their direct political and administrative domination over the previous colonies are concerned.However,their legacy in terms of psychological and cultural domination still persists. V.S.Naipaul projects his characters in this legacy. Quite often they find themselves hopeless and lost while trying to define a significance within the legacy.They struggle,but often their struggle is thwarted and distorted by the grotesque reality of their circumstances.But they endure them all;they introspect into them and ultimately find a solution. Mr.Biswas in A House for Mr.Biswas and Ralph Singh in The Mimic Men are the epitomes of these examples.It is here Naipaul becomes an ardent source of inspiration for all who strive to understand and define identity in a postcolonial socio-cultural context.This book on the basis of this inspiration, may serve a valuable purpose at bachelor and masters levels where Naipaul is drawn to ignite a postcolonial significance.
