The first chapter of this book introduces the subject matter and produces a summary of the present status of the senior citizens in India. The second chapter discusses the concept of old age, symptoms of old age and illustrates some famous theories related to old age. The third chapter makes a survey of international covenants, conventions and declarations for protection of senior citizens rights. The fourth chapter talks about the social, economic and health problems of the senior citizens. The fifth chapter discusses the Constitutional and legal protection available to the senior citizens. The sixth chapter emphasizes upon the need of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. it also explains the provisions of the legislation and makes an analysis thereof. Then, it discusses the judicial response on the legislation. Lastly, a critical analysis of the Act has been made. In the seventh chapter, an attempt has been made to prove that senior citizens are our valuable assets rather than liability. The last chapter sums up the discussion and gives conclusive remarks with some suggestions.
The Author is an Assistant Professor in Law at Dr. RML National Law University, Lucknow. He also worked in H.N.B. Garhwal University (A Central University) as an Assistant Professor. He has vast experience of teaching I.A.S./P.C.S. batches in several Government and Private Institutions. He has more than 20 publications to his credit.
