The writings contained within chronicle the mental and spiritual journey that the author has undergone. Some of the poems reflect the struggles of post-traumatic stress, while others are more spiritual in nature. Although there are differences in subject matter, the author wrote the truth of what is in his heart and soul.
As he began to turn back toward his faith, the author wrote more poems about spiritual matters. The need for the author to submit and lay his life in God's hands became greater as the days went on. When submission came, it was while the author was writing a poem.
