Nanobiomaterials: Research Trends and Applications - Biomaterials are derived from natural resources such as plants, animals and marine sources. These biomaterials have advanced applications, across a range of key industries due to their low cost, being easy to process, being biocompatible and so on.

Dr. Thandapani Gomathi, Ph.D., is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, at DKM College for Women (Autonomous), Affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India. She received her M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from Thiruvalluvar University in 2006, 2008 and 2015. She was awarded the University Ninth rank in M.Sc. Chemistry from Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore (2006). Her major research interests are in the field of drug designing and drug delivery, nanotechnology, polymer chemistry, environmental chemistry, biopolymers for biomedical applications. She is highly enthusiastic about pursuing research and developmental activities and research is her passion. Furthermore, she expended her research fields up to the development of nano drug delivery system. To date, she has authored around 105 research papers and 15 book chapters.

Dr. P.N. Sudha is presently working as a Principal at DKM College for Women (Autonomous), affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India. She obtained her Doctoral degree in Chemistry-Biology Interdisciplinary Science from Madras University. She is a fellow of International Congress of Chemistry and Environment, and National Environmentalists Association. Her name was included in Marquis Who's Who in the World (2011). She has been listed in the worlds top 2% scientists consecutively for the past three years. Her research interests are polymer chemistry, environmental chemistry, bioremediation, and photochemistry. She has authored 11 books and 13 book chapters. She is a life member of Asian Chitin Chitosan Society. She is a co editor and reviewer of international journals. Her immense experience in research is the key asset for the development of research among the young women researchers in rural areas. She expanded her research fields up to the use to biomaterials such as chitin and chitosan for biomedical application. She has undertaken projects funded by UGC, DST, TNSCST, and MHRD. She has guided 40 PhD scholars and 50 MPhil scholars. She has published 190 research articles in journals mainly on the wastewater treatment and biomedical applications of chitin and chitosan.

Dr. Sabu Thomas, PhD is the Founder Director and Professor of the International and Interuniversity Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and also full professor of Polymer Science and Engineering at the School of Chemical Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India. He is an outstanding leader with sustained international acclaims for his work. Dr. Thomas's ground breaking inventions in polymer nanocomposites, polymer blends, green bionanotechnological and nano-biomedical sciences, have made transformative differences in the development of new materials for automotive, space, housing and biomedical fields. In collaboration with India's premier tyre company, Apollo Tyres, Professor Thomas's group invented new high performance barrier rubber nanocomposite membranes for inner tubes and inner liners for tyres. Professor Thomas has received a number of national and international awards which include: Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, Distinguished Professorship from Josef Stefan Institute, Slovenia, MRSI medal, Nano Tech Medal, CRSI medal, Distinguished Faculty Award, and Sukumar Maithy Award for the best polymer researcher in the country. He is in the list of most productive researchers in India and holds a position of No. 5. Very recently, because of the outstanding contributions to the field of nano materials, Polymer Science and Engineering, Prof. Thomas has been conferred Honoris Causa (DSc) by the University of South Brittany, Lorient, France. Professor Thomas has published over 650 peer reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters. He has co-edited 53 books published by Royal Society, Wiley, Wood head, Elsevier, CRC Press, Springer, Nova, etc. He is the inventor of 6 patents. The h index of Prof. Thomas is 124 and has more than 76,500 citations. Prof. Thomas has delivered over 300 Plenary/Inaugural and Invited lectures in national/international meetings over 40 countries. He has established a state of the art laboratory at Mahatma Gandhi University in the area of Polymer Science and Engineering and Nanoscience and Nanotechnology through external funding form DST, CSIR, TWAS, UGC, DBT, DRDO, AICTE, ISRO, DIT, TWAS, KSCSTE, BRNS, UGC-DAE, Du Pont, USA, General Cables, USA, Surface Treat Czech Republic, MRF Tyres and Apollo Tyres. Professor Thomas has several international collaborative projects with a large number of countries abroad. He has already supervised 75 PhD theses. The former co-workers of Prof. Thomas occupy leading positions in India and abroad.
