Alan Apt is the author of three widely used Colorado guidebooks, Ski Touring, and Snowshoeing, Colorado's Front Range, and Afoot and Afield in Colorado, a hiking guide. He is a former weekly columnist for the Fort Collins, Coloradoan newspaper. He has contributed trail, travel and trekking articles to the Denver Post and Boulder Weekly. He was the Publisher of dozens of innovative computer science and engineering textbooks with Prentice Hall.
He has trekked and climbed in many of the world's iconic mountain ranges, including: The Rockies, Alps, Andes, Sierra, Cascades, Alaska Range, Scotland's Munroes and the Himalayas. He has climbed over 50 of Colorado's highest mountains.
He is an alumni member of the National Ski Patrol. He is a volunteer ski and snowshoe instructor with Ignite Adaptive Sports, and a Special Olympics softball coach.
His descriptions of the natural world have been called lyrical. He lives in Nederland, Colorado.
