Periodontal diseases including chronic and aggressive periodontitis involves interplay of infectious, host response, environmental and genetic factors. Interleukins plays an important part in pathophysiology of periodontal diseases which ultimately leads to periodontal tissue destruction and tooth loss. As these cytokines underplay an important role in pathophysiology of periodontal diseases so these mediators could be a potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets in periodontal diseases.Interleukins play a major role in etiology of both periodontal diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
