Through this book an attempt has been made to cover lean implementation issues such as customers pressure,organization constraints, implementation hurdles, training required for lean implementation, commitment and awareness of employees about lean implementation, suppliers issues, design variables for lean implementation, process variables for lean implementation, lean tools, various waste identified, performance parameters and investment priorities for lean implementation in Indian scenario. With the help of a case study reduction in work in- process inventory by 80.09%, finished goods inventory by 50%, product lead time by 82.12%, station cycle time by 3.75%, change over time by 6.75% and manpower required by 16.66%. Finally a leanness measurement instrument called leanness index was developed and leanness of auto component Indian industry was measured. Both the results of the case study and value of leanness index were found as per the lean implementation status given by the survey conducted in Indian industries. The findings given by this research will be very useful for the managers and practitioner working for lean implementation in India environment.
