KIM STAFFORD grew up in Oregon, Iowa, Indiana, California, and Alaska. Since 1979 he has taught at Lewis & Clark College where he directs the Northwest Writing Institute, and teaches writing. His books include Having Everything Right: Essays of Place, We Got Here Together (children's book), Wind on the Waves (short stories), Lochsa Road: A Pilgrim in the West (travel essay), Entering the Grove (essays), and several collections of poems, among them Places & Stories, The Granary, and A Gypsy's History of the World. Stafford has received two creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. He holds a Ph.D. in medieval literature from the University of Oregon, and lives in Portland with his wife and children.
