Joseph M. Larkin is Assistant Director for Research and Staff Development with the Compact for Educational Opportunity, an organization that monitors and supports the metropolitan school desegregation program in the Milwaukee area. As a school teacher, a community worker, and a university professor, he has spent twenty-five years working in the field of urban education. Christine E. Sleeter is Professor of Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She is the author/editor of many books and articles about multicultural education including Empowerment Through Multicultural Education (published by SUNY Press). She also is editor of the SUNY series, The Social Context of Education.
