Vision is our most important sense to connect with the environment, and its quality is intimately associated with how we perceive the world and operate daily. The optics of the eye is the means to all visual information delivered to the brain. Therefore, when the optical system underperforms, it is bound to affect our capabilities and lifestyle.
This book presents an independent generalist view for Ophthalmic specialists and optical professionals alike. It bridges the gap between clinical practice and the engineering of lens design, tackling advances in refractive correction in ophthalmic optics, with a focus on current and future intraocular lenses, and presenting challenges for lenses with premium features as extended depth of focus and integrated functions.
The topics cover the basics of the human-eye optics, types of refractive errors and corrections, fundamental optical parameters, intraocular lenses, manufacturing of intraocular and contact lenses, lens design and optimization methods, electronically equipped lenses, mechanically adjustable lenses, and evaluation of health parameters through the eye.
The main audiences for this text are Ophthalmic lens designers, Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Professionals in the ophthalmic field.
