Pontificating on future trends has long been an entertaining pastime for business leaders, sociologists, economists, educators, and even pastors. Inevitably, and somewhat ironically, most of these men and women forecast the future based on what has happened in the past. Much of the time that seems to work well enough. Well enough at least, to keep us all buying their books and listening to their podcasts. Every now and then something in the world around us makes an unexpected break from precedent. Every now and then there's a fundamental shift in the way things work. One such shift is taking place right now in American culture. A new generation has grown up that neither knows the Lord nor what he has done. And the church is not prepared to be the church in that culture.
